1. I am afraid of giving birth. Can HypnoBirthing really help me?

Many women are afraid of giving birth. The most common reasons are that the pregnant woman absolutly does not know what is happening with her body during childbirth, that she expects a lot of pain and that she is afraid to „lose control“ and feel helpless.
HypnoBirthing is a program which supports parents during pregnancy. Parents learn relaxation, visualization and breathing techniques to train and enhance relaxation long before birth. Through the course parents get many information about the processes at birth and how a woman´s body is perfectly made for giving birth. Understanding the true physiology oft the birthing muscles is very helpful for women to feel safe and comfort. The birth companion is perfectly prepared to support the mother, to make her feel comfortable and safe. We also create a birthing preference sheet together, so that the staff in the hospital can follow your wishes and needs. Negative thoughts and ideas about childbirth can be turned into self-confidence by very easy techniques and methods. This helps to enjoy the pregnany and birth in peace, with trust and happiness.

2. What is the difference to a “normal” birth preparation course?

HypnoBirthing has been developed for intensive and positive preparation for childbirth. Parents receive very much attention and support in their self-determined birth preparation. The mental preparation is very important, so that the parents can prepare themselves emotionally in a positive way. This aspect is missing in the “normal” birth preparation courses, as well as the creation of a birthing preference sheet and how to choose the right place to give birth. Parents learn different techniques that they can use during birth. In addition, the course contains information about Nutrition, pelvic floor exercises, perineal massage, dealing with negative thoughts, Birth positions and birth-process from the beginning to the end. I accompany „my“ Parents through the whole pregnancy.
A normal birth preparation course varies greatly from midwife to midwife. While some also strengthen the positive body feeling and the relaxation of the parents, there are unfortunately still courses which very much convey the “medical model” of birth and often explain all possible drugs, possible complications and (often unnecessary) routine medical procedures. A good course strengthens the self-confidence of the mother.

3. I have read the book HypnoBirthing. Should I still take a course?

The book by Marie F. Mongan provides a wonderful foundation for giving birth. However, the advantages of the course are significant.
In the course, we focus on the practical part. We learn and practice together. I will support you individually and i will explain the exercises very clearly. In addition, the course contains a lot more detailed information which is very important for a good preparation.

4. How long does a course last?

The course lasts approximately 12 hours divided into 4 units. The total course duration is 4 weeks.

5. When can I register and attend the course?

You can register any time, no matter in which pregnancy week you are. I recommend starting the course from the 2nd trimester. Then you have more time to prepare for birth and repeat the exercises.

6. Can i attend the course without a birth companion?

Yes, you can. HypnoBirthing is designed as a pair course. If you have no birth companion you can prepare yourself alone. I will accompany you during the course.

7. Will i definitely have a pain-free birth when I attend the course?

Every woman, every body and every birth is different. Some describe the birth as intense, others as completely painless. Therefore, no one will be able to promise a painless birth. However, you have learned many important techniques in the course for a relaxed, gentle and safe birth.

8. Does the midwife, who accompanies me during birth, needs to know HypnoBirthing?

The midwife does not have to know the details. It is important that she reads you birthing preference sheet and that she respects and supports you in the way you deserve it.

9. For whom is HypnoBirthing suitable?

The HypnoBirthing course is suitable for parents who want to experience a self-determined, natural and gentle birth without unnecessary procedures. HypnoBirthing parents are optimally and individually prepared, so that they can look forward to the gentle birth of their baby.

10. Does the health insurance cover the costs?

Many health insurance pay a part or the entire course fee. You can call and ask your insurance.

11. What Qualifications should the Instructor have?

Ideal is an experienced Course Instructor, who has a special qualification (therapist, midwife, physician). In addition, a Certification as a HypnoBirthing Course Instructor should exist and the instructor should have an advanced Training in Hypnotherapy.

12. Is an online HypnoBirthing Course an alternative to a course visit?

In my opinion, an online HypnoBirthing course without the presence of a course instructor is not an alternative to a personal course visit and has many disadvantages:

  1. The parent do not have a direct opportunity to ask questions.
  2. No possibility to train the techniques in the right way
  3. HypnoBirthing techniques should be learned by an experienced and qualified course leader. The mental preparation is not possible in an online course.
  4. An individual preparation is not possible
  5. Parents do not meat other parents in an online course.
An online course makes the preperation less efficient and the benefits are much lower than in a course with the support of an experienced instructor.

13. What does the golden seal stand for?

The Golden HypnoBirthing Seal is issued by the HypnoBirthing Institute of Marie Mongan through trained and certified instructors. It is a sign that the course instructor has learned the original HypnoBirthing method and has passed various levels of education and is currently certified. The seal demonstrates the seriousness and competence of a course leader.

14. Why do we have weekly Units?

Feel, understand, internalize, experience is only possible in a course lasting several weeks. HypnoBirthing is not just about knowledge transfer. It is about the whole process of intensive preparation for the birth and the new life as parents. The intensive occupation with yourself, your baby, your birth, with the partner and the new role as parents takes time. The exercises and information can be optimally internalized in a course lasting several weeks.

15. How many Units do we have?

The Course has 4 units with 12 hours. In addition you can book the 5th Unit (as close as possible to your Due Date) with 2 hours. The Units 1-4 can be booked in one block and you should participate as early as possible during pregnancy.
The 5th Unit can be booked separately and you should participate as close as possible to the Due Date. Why? Because this Unit contains special deepening techniques, visualisations of birth as well as the fourth trimester. So it is about to feel “ready” for birth and the first time with the baby. In addition, the last questions will be answered. Since the Due Dates in the group courses can vary, it is reasonable that each mother registers separately for this 5th Unit.

16. What if i miss the 5th Unit?

This is not a problem for your birth preparation! After Unit 1-4 you are optimally prepared for your HypnoBirth. Nevertheless, mothers benefit greatly from the 5th Unit as last questions are answered, advanced techniques are practiced and the first time  with the baby is discussed.

17. Crashcourses or One-Weekend-Courses? No, thanks!

What I think of it? Honestly? Nothing. As I have written above, it is not just a question of knowledge transfer. This is not the way of HypnoBirthing. It is all about the optimal preparation for birth and parenthood long before the baby is born. The exercises and the information can be optimally internalized in a course lasting several weeks so that a truly good preparation can take place. Nobody can prepare in one Weekend. Fortunately, we have many months.
